Things You Need for a Day in Anguilla

Each day in Anguilla has the potential to be an amazing experience, so here’s how to make the best of your time on the island.

Each day in Anguilla has the potential to be an amazing experience, so here’s how to make the best of your time on the island.

Whether you’re lounging on the beach or exploring the wonders of the island, there are a few things you should have ready to take with you every day.

Sunscreen

Don’t forget to bring your sunscreen and apply it regularly during the day. Anguilla is relatively close to the equator, which means that the sun’s intensity is stronger than in other parts of the world. Protecting your skin is a must – not to mention that a sunburn will put a damper on your vacation.

When picking your sunscreen, it’s important to pick a reef-safe sunscreen. Certain sunscreen ingredients pose a danger to coral reefs, which also hurts marine life like fish and dolphins. To keep coral reefs around for years to come, make sure you select a reef-safe sunscreen

Sunglasses

Speaking of the sun, make sure you bring your favorite pair of sunglasses. Believe it or not, your eyes can also get sunburned, and even light reflected off the ocean is enough to hurt your eyes. Fortunately, wearing a stylish pair of sunglasses is the perfect way to keep your eyes safe on your vacation. Make sure to pick a pair that blocks UVA and UVB radiation, which will be noted on the label.

Swimsuit and Cover-Ups

If you’re spending the day at the beach, there’s nothing more important than your favorite swimsuit. While restaurants on the beach are usually used to folks coming up to order swimwear, it’s always a good idea to bring a set of comfy clothes to swap into if you want to head inside. Whether it’s a sarong, cover-up, or a baggy t-shirt and shorts, having options for when you want to get up and go is a perfect choice.

Beach Toys

If you’re traveling with kids, or you’re just a fun-loving adult, make sure you bring your favorite beach toys. For kids, sand toys to help them dig, build, and explore are a great bet. Beach balls and other intertubes are also fun for floating in the gentle waves of Anguilla’s beaches.

Comfortable Shoes

Sandals and flip-flops are welcome everywhere on the island. Make sure you pack your favorite pair because you’ll be getting lots of use out of them. If you plan on walking around town or taking a scenic hike, wear a pair of sneakers or supportive active sandals. Better yet, toss both pairs in your bag for the day so you’re ready to swap from the beach to town.

Water

Being out and about all day in the sun calls for staying hydrated. The water in Anguilla is potable, but many travelers prefer to drink bottled water. Fortunately, water bottles are easy to purchase at local stores and restaurants. Prep for a long day by buying a few water bottles the day before, storing them in your hotel fridge, and then packing them with you for your daily adventures.

A Bag

It may seem obvious, but bringing all of the things you need for a day out requires the perfect bag. If you’re headed off to the beach, make sure you bring a waterproof bag that can hold all of your daily needs as well as any towels you might need to bring with you from your hotel. Collapsible bags are also a great idea because they’re small and easy to toss into a bigger bag when you don’t need them, but if you find something in a local shop you want to bring back, you have extra room.

If you’re headed out for an adventure, bring a small backpack that can zip closed. You’ll want to make sure that none of your items can escape while you’re hiking, horse riding, or doing water sports.
